Empose alternatives: free and paid pose apps (Oct 2026)
Want pose ideas without Empose Premium? Superpose has free daily packs and Photography Poses is free to use. Onpose, Pose Genius and Hit The Pose fit other needs.
We make Onpose, one of the apps on this list, so we're not neutral. Facts about each app come from App Store listings and Apple's public data; the sources and the dates we checked them are at the end of the page.

Superpose
best for new pose ideas every day without a subscription
Instead of a curated library, Superpose makes poses for you: take one photo and it generates AI pose variations, four references per Shot Pack, then shows them as an outline on your camera, with coach tips and live checks on lighting, framing and composition. It's free to download, you get free Shot Packs daily, and paid packs never expire. Generation runs in the cloud through an AI provider, while the in-camera guidance runs on the device. Its listing doesn't describe importing a saved photo. With 295 US ratings averaging 4.80 (21 Oct 2026), it has the highest average of the pose apps we track. Pick this if you want fresh ideas without paying and are happy with AI-made references instead of a hand-picked aesthetic library.
Free daily Shot Packs; 5 packs $2.99 or 20 packs $9.99, one-time (US, 21 Oct 2026)

Photography Poses゜
best for a huge free library for whoever holds the camera
Its description calls the app PhotoX, and it's built for photographers: more than 15,000 poses with descriptions and prompts, plus guides to camera settings, client email templates and contracts. The listing says you can keep using it for free if you don't buy Premium. It doesn't describe showing a pose over the camera, and it hasn't been updated since 12 Dec 2024. Its 325 US ratings average 4.72 (21 Oct 2026). Pick this if a friend or partner is taking your photos and wants a big, free source of ideas to direct you with.
Free to use; optional Pro listed from $5.99 to $99.99 (US, 21 Oct 2026)
-
Onpose
best for seeing every pose free, then shooting it with an overlay
We make Onpose. Every pose in the library is free to browse, in four sets: outfit, travel, going out, and with friends, which is all poses for two. Choose one, or import any photo you've saved, and it appears semi-transparent over your live camera so you can line yourself up; that's free too. Taking and saving the photo needs Pro. Onpose doesn't upload your photos or reference images, and there's no account. Next to Empose it has no weekly drops, no style or mood filters, no AI Looks, no shoot planning, an English-only app and no App Store ratings yet. Pick this if you want to see the whole library before you pay and copy poses with the overlay.
$7.99/week or $39.99/year (US App Store, October 2026)
-
Pose Genius
best for a 500+ pose library that includes couples and groups
Covers outfit, aesthetic, travel, couple and group poses for men and women, 500+ in all, and shows them as on-screen overlays in the camera. You can add your own poses from your camera roll or screenshots, and an AI scene scan suggests poses that suit where you are. The listing describes it as a paid app with a free or low-cost trial for most new users, and doesn't say where the scan runs. It has 236 US ratings averaging 4.64 (21 Oct 2026). Pick this if you want a big library with couple and group poses, shown over the camera, and you're fine paying after the trial.
Paid app with a trial; $9.99/week, $19.99/month, yearly from $47.90 (US, 21 Oct 2026)
-
Hit The Pose
best for selfie and mirror poses, plus your own saves
A catalog split into Trending, Selfie, Mirror, Indoor and Outdoor, where any pose can sit over your live camera, moved, zoomed and faded to taste, or switched to a silhouette. You can also bring in any image from Photos, including Pinterest saves, as a reference. The listing says photo and reference pixels stay on your iPhone, with no account or login, and it describes no AI features. It doesn't say which poses are free. There are no US ratings yet (21 Oct 2026). Pick this if mirror and selfie poses are what you're after and you're willing to try an app without public feedback.
Premium listed at $39.99 and $7.99 (US, 21 Oct 2026); the listing doesn't say what's free
If you want pose ideas without paying for Empose Premium, start with Superpose or Photography Poses゜. Superpose gives you free Shot Packs every day with no subscription, and Photography Poses゜ says you can keep using it free, though it’s made for photographers. Onpose, Pose Genius and Hit The Pose suit other needs, covered below.
We make Onpose, one of the apps on this list, so keep that in mind. Every fact here comes from the apps’ US App Store listings, Apple’s public data or public App Store reviews, checked on 21 Oct 2026. We haven’t hands-on tested these apps yet, so this isn’t a ranking.
Why people look for Empose alternatives
Empose launched on 24 Aug 2026 and had 103 US ratings, averaging 4.19, by 21 Oct 2026. It’s a free download, but its App Store listing says “Pose guides, the weekly pose drops and AI Looks in Studio require an Empose Premium subscription”. Listed US prices on 21 Oct 2026 included $6.99 a week, $11.99 a month and several yearly prices from $9.99 to $59.99, plus credit packs.
Two recent reviews show what people run into. One reviewer reported (19 Sep 2026) that “out of 80 poses only 3 are available if you don’t have a subscription”, and another wrote (23 Sep 2026) about “only having 2 poses you can use without paying”. Our Empose vs Onpose page compares the two in detail.
How we ordered them
The need is “pose ideas I can actually use before I pay”. So the order follows how much each listing says you can do free: Superpose and Photography Poses゜ first, then Onpose, where browsing and lining up are free but saving photos isn’t, then the apps that are paid or don’t say. Onpose is third because you can’t keep a photo without Pro.
| App | Pose ideas | Pose over the live camera | Free to start | US rating (21 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Superpose | AI-generated from a photo you take | Yes, as an outline | Yes, daily free Shot Packs | 4.80 (295) |
| Photography Poses゜ | 15,000+, made for photographers | Not described | Yes, per listing | 4.72 (325) |
| Onpose | Four sets: outfit, travel, going out, with friends | Yes | Browse and line up free; saving needs Pro | No ratings yet |
| Pose Genius | 500+, including couple and group | Yes | Trial, then paid | 4.64 (236) |
| Hit The Pose | Trending, Selfie, Mirror, Indoor, Outdoor | Yes | Not described | No ratings yet |
| Empose, for reference | Curated aesthetic library, weekly drops (Premium) | Not stated | Pose guides, drops and AI Looks need Premium | 4.19 (103) |
Prices may vary, and each app’s in-app paywall is the authority.
If you only need ideas
If you just want inspiration and you’ll shoot with any camera, a Pinterest board of your own costs nothing; Pinterest poses covers building one you’ll actually shoot. What matters is turning a pin into a photo, and how to recreate a Pinterest photo covers that: match the camera height, the lens, the distance and the light first, then the pose.
If you shoot as a pair
Empose’s listing mentions duo poses. Among the alternatives, Pose Genius lists couple and group poses, and Onpose’s with-friends set is all poses for two, though there’s no couples set. You can check the with-friends poses before you download anything.
